A Full Continuum of Care That Grows With Your Child

At Ascend Behavioral Health, we specialize in teen mental health treatment that’s rooted in compassion, evidence-based care, and real results. Based in Fresno, CA, our programs are designed just for children, preteens, and teens who are struggling with emotional, behavioral, or psychological challenges. Whether your child is facing anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, or something more complex, we’re here to help them heal—and to support you every step of the way. From inpatient care to flexible outpatient options, our Fresno team provides a safe space where young people can reconnect with themselves, build healthy coping skills, and start moving toward a brighter future.

Residential Treatment

Our residential program provides 24/7 support in a safe, structured setting for teens who need the highest level of care. With locations in Fresno, Visalia, and Bakersfield, your child will stay on-site while receiving daily therapy, psychiatric care, and holistic support to help stabilize their mental health. It’s a chance to step away from everyday stressors and fully focus on healing.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

PHP is our most intensive day program, offering full days of therapeutic support without overnight stays. Teens attend programming at one of our three Central Valley locations—Fresno, Visalia, or Bakersfield—where they engage in individual and group therapy, skills training, and psychiatric care before returning home in the evening. It’s ideal for those who need structured care while staying connected to home life.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our IOP helps teens who are ready for more independence but still need consistent support. Offered in Fresno, Visalia, and Bakersfield, this program includes therapy, education, and psychiatric follow-up a few days a week. It’s a step-down level of care that allows your teen to build confidence while continuing to work on their mental health in a real-world setting.

Outpatient Program (OP)

Our outpatient program is typically the final step in a teen’s treatment journey—designed for those who are stepping down from PHP or IOP and no longer need intensive day-to-day support. Available at our Fresno, Visalia, and Bakersfield locations, this level of care focuses on maintaining progress through weekly therapy, skill-building, and continued check-ins with our clinical team.

Outpatient Psychiatry

We provide expert psychiatric evaluations and medication management for teens at all three of our Central Valley locations. Whether your child is new to mental health treatment or needs long-term medication support, our Fresno, Visalia, and Bakersfield psychiatry teams create thoughtful, customized plans that support each teen’s path to wellness.

How to Know If Your Child Needs Mental Health Treatment

It’s not always easy to tell when a teen is struggling with their mental health—especially when some signs can look like typical adolescent behavior. But if your child is pulling away from friends, avoiding school, showing intense mood swings, or just doesn’t seem like themselves, it may be time to take a closer look. Mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma don’t always show up in obvious ways. Sometimes it’s subtle changes—like trouble sleeping, a drop in grades, or unexplained physical complaints—that point to something deeper.

  • Here are a few signs that could mean your teen needs mental health support:
  • Withdrawing from family, friends, or activities they used to enjoy
  • Frequent mood swings, irritability, or emotional outbursts
  • Changes in sleep or eating patterns
  • Declining grades or loss of interest in school
  • Talking about hopelessness, self-harm, or suicide
  • Struggling to manage anxiety, stress, or overwhelming emotions

As a parent, trust your instincts. If something feels off, it’s worth reaching out. At Ascend Behavioral Health, we’re here to help you figure out what’s going on and guide you toward the right care. With locations in Fresno, Visalia, and Bakersfield, our team offers assessments, personalized support, and a clear path forward. You don’t have to wait for things to get worse—early help can make all the difference.

What Sets Our Program Apart

Growing up isn’t a straight line—and neither is healing. That’s why our program is built to meet kids exactly where they are, whether they’re navigating the emotional ups and downs of elementary school or the pressures of high school life. At Ascend Behavioral Health, we specialize in treating two distinct age groups: children ages 9–12 and teens ages 13–17. Each group has its own dedicated programming and therapeutic approach to ensure every young person gets care that makes sense for their stage of life.

From age-appropriate therapy models to peer groups that feel safe and relatable, everything we do is shaped around how your child learns, connects, and grows. And because no two journeys are the same, every treatment plan is customized—built around your child’s personality, needs, and long-term goals. Whether your child is just beginning to show signs of emotional distress or is struggling with a long-standing condition, our team is here to support them every step of the way.
